Terms of Use

Effective October 25, 2026

The short version: MailMinder is a free helper, not a guarantee. It can miss a scam, and it can flag a real letter by mistake. It is not legal or financial advice, and it is not from the FTC, the Postal Service or any government agency. Before you pay, call or share information, check with someone you trust, and contact the company using the phone number on your own card, statement or its official website.

1. Who runs MailMinder

MailMinder (the "Service") is a free tool run by Jake Swanson in Missouri, USA ("we," "us"). Contact: jswans12@gmail.com. By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

2. What the Service does

You point your phone's camera at a piece of mail. The Service reads the text on your device (and, when it cannot find a phone number, with an AI reading service), looks for wording that scams often use, and checks any phone numbers it finds against public consumer reports published by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It then shows a general warning level: STOP, CAREFUL, NO WARNINGS or TRY AGAIN.

3. What the Service is not

4. About FTC report data

Phone-number results come from the FTC's public "Do Not Call" reported-calls data. These are reports made by members of the public. The FTC states that the information in these reports is not verified. A number appearing in our results means only that someone reported a call from it to the FTC. It does not mean that the owner of the number did anything wrong. Caller ID numbers can also be faked ("spoofed") by scammers. We show the number of reports and the reported subject as published, and we do not add our own claims about the number's owner.

If your business number appears and you believe it should not, email us at jswans12@gmail.com with the number and an explanation. We will review it and, where appropriate, remove or annotate it in our results. We cannot change the FTC's own records.

5. Your responsibilities

6. Free service; changes

The Service is provided free of charge. We may change, pause or stop it, or update the scam data, at any time and without notice.

7. No warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, RELIABILITY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL IDENTIFY EVERY SCAM, THAT ITS RESULTS WILL BE CORRECT, OR THAT IT WILL BE AVAILABLE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION OR ERROR.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF MONEY, PROPERTY, DATA OR OPPORTUNITY, INCLUDING ANY LOSS CAUSED BY A SCAM, FRAUD OR THIRD PARTY, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50). SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THESE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

9. Third-party services

The Service relies on other providers, including Netlify (hosting), Anthropic (AI reading of hard-to-read pictures), the FTC (report data), jsDelivr (delivers the text-reading software) and Google Fonts (lettering). We are not responsible for their services, content or availability. Links to other websites are provided for convenience only.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Missouri, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
